Conflict And Josie Film Analysis - 1196 Words

The victim, Josie, in the film, faced rape, intimate partner violence, and sexual harassment encounters. Incidentally, one of the major focuses of the film concerned sexual harassment, but I would be remiss if I did not give equal time to the horrendous acts of violence experienced by the victim. The rape experienced was forcible and statutory in nature, and is a recognized social problem, but the shaming by her parent, brought the rape back to a personal problem. Then the intimate partner violence led to a similar response that somehow the victim caused the assault by her actions. From here on, was born the â€Å"quiet revolution† which involved women leaving their homes for employment and men rejecting the change. Women have move d into the future with the ability to obtain a mail dominated job, but the consequences have led to various forms of harassment, and in particular sexual harassment. Feminists have â€Å"raised awareness of the group nature of these objective conditions....As subjective concerns grew—more women coming to the same conclusions†¦..a social problem was born.† Sexual harassment is not necessarily experienced by actions but also take on a verbal assault. As an example, would be the name calling, by the men, in the film towards their women co-workers. The names were not funny, nor were the exceedingly ugly actions tied into the name calling. The EEOC has defined the problems involving sexual harassment to include a broad audience, but the thoughts are that the behavior is left then for interpretation (Henslin.Chapter9,pg.293). Ordinarily, there would be a set of rules for what constitutes sexual harassment, but that is not the case in various work settings. What can be c onsidered okay in work environment would be sexual harassment in another (Henslin.Chapter9,pg.293/294). And, a thought that came to mind is if the rules apply differently to white collar versus blue collar environments with regards to sexual harassment.
